Desert Island Book - August Takeover!

Now it’s mid August, it’s all about holidays and up until last week we were in full on summer heat wave (fingers crossed it will come back!) so I thought what better time to do a desert island disc takeover!

Ever wondered what would happen if you were forced to be on an island with only 1 book? Or even how your favourite authors and fellow bloggers would hold up?
We did! So this is what we’ve done:

We asked some of our lovely blogger friends and Mira Ink readers to imagine they are stranded on a desert island and to answer a few quick-fire, and quite grueling, questions, all book related of course. I will then post them over the course of August so keep an eye out, you may see someone you know or discover a new blogger to follow!
Plus we may even have a few guest appearances from the Mira Ink team and authors!

To kick things all off we have our first Desert Island Books entry from Jo from Once Upon a Bookcase blog!

1. If you were stranded on a desert island for the summer and you were only allowed one book, which would you bring with you and why?

Oh, that's a hard one! It would be a toss up between The Redemption of Althalus by David Eddings or Every Day by David Levithan.

The Redemption of Althalusa fantastic is a high fantasy full of gods and wars, with a huge cast of characters including a princess, priest, psychic, thief and, strangely, a very demanding cat. David Eddings is the author who got me in to reading, and his stories are amazing; full of magic and danger, but with very real, flawed characters, and such humour! This particular story is quite a hefty tome, so I think it would keep me going if I'm stranded for quite a while!

Every Day is a sci-fi love story, about A, who wakes up each and every day in someone else's body, and A's attempt at a normal life with normal relationships when A meets Rhiannon, the girlfriend of a boy whose body A wakes up in one day. It's a story about how far you will go for love first and foremost, but also about people; about how diverse we are, yet still pretty much the same underneath. It's the most incredible book I have ever read, and I've been telling everyone about it! It's a little shorter than Althalus, though, so won't last me as long.

One of the two. I can't decide which, sorry! Whichever's closest?

2. You discover that your favourite author has washed up ashore with you – who would it be (and why)?

Oh my gosh! Again, so difficult to choose! I don't really have one favourite. Maybe Lauren Oliver; her novels - YA and middle grade - are just so awesome! Her writing is just so beautiful and awe-inspiring! Yeah, I'll go with Lauren.

3. What would be the ultimate question you’d love to ask them?

If I could please come and live in her head? How's that for a question! No, not really appropriate? Ok. Then I would ask: How do you manage to write so beautifully? And can you please teach me?

4. You see a boat in the distance coming to rescue you… Where would you want it to take you and why (it can be anywhere, real or fiction)?

Hogwarts! Without a doubt! As long as I could be enrolled. If not... Hogsmead then, please! Or Diagon Alley!
